Bojangles was picked up by Animal Control and then taken to an emergency vet after being hit by a car. X-rays showed that his front and back legs on the left side were broken. Without the money for surgery and medical care, Bojangles would be euthanized. Knowing that Lucky Dog Retreat Rescue focuses on dogs with special medical needs, the Indianapolis Care Services reached out to ask for help.  Lucky Dog Retreat Rescue came through, paying the $1,400 for his emergency vet care and agreeing to manage his care.

Bojangles was scheduled with an orthopedic vet for surgery on both left legs. He had a pin put in his front left shoulder to hold the bones together while they healed. He also had an external fixator inserted into his left rear leg to stabilize the break. Bojangles was sent home with a foster family to recover and Lucky Dog Retreat Rescue covered the bill of $3,572.

Every day he improved. His sweet, loving personality started to show as the pain eased. Bojanles had the staples removed from his front leg and the incision healed. A few weeks later, the pin was removed from his left shoulder and the second incision healed. After 8 weeks, the external fixator was removed from his back left leg. His silly side emerged as he discovered the toy baskets at his foster home. He will soon need a slow-feeder bowl to curb his excitement at meal time. Bojangles found his voice to greet his foster family when they returned from errands and in the back yard with his canine pals when he wanted to play. He loves to sleep outside in the sun and spent many hours on the back porch resting during his recovery.

Bojangles a bundle of wiggly joy and kisses who would not have had the chance at a long, happy life without Lucky Dog Retreat Rescue and their unique mission to help heal dogs with major medical needs. Adopting Bojangles would have been cost-prohibitive for most people, but Lucky Dog Retreat Rescue was there to get him the care he needed to get him back on all four legs and ready for his forever home.
